The Ministry of Rural Development's Farmstead Development Programme is enjoying continued popularity, the Ministry's Parliamentary State Secretary, Gyula Budai said at a professional conference organised in Hungary's Parliament building.

The State Secretary announced that a further 320 million forints have been made available to improve life and farming conditions for people living in farmsteads. This is clear indication of the fact that the Government is committed to helping people living on farmsteads and in rural areas.

Mr. Budai pointed out that a total of HUF 5.8bn (some 19 million euros) in funding had been made available within the Farmstead Development Programme since it was launched in 2011. A total of 963 submitted project tenders have received non-refundable financial support so far within the framework of the Programme, which is funded entirely from the national budget. Winners this year include almost 600 individual farmstead owners and farmers, who have developed their farms and installed electricity. The Government's goal is to ensure that all farmsteads are connected to the national grid by 2020, and that farmsteads should be suitably accessible by road.

Mr. Budai stressed that it is the Government's clear intention to continue the Programme, which will result in the total renewal of the country's farmstead system.
