The forest school in Nagykálló-Harangod, northeast Hungary, renovated with 84 million forints of EU funding, was inaugurated this afternoon.

At the inauguration, which was also attended by the Ministry of Rural Development's Parliamentary State Secretary Gyula Budai, the local government in charge of the project said that it had been awarded more that 75 million forints (some 250,000 euros) within the framework of the Environment and Energy Operative Programme.

One of the school's buildings has been successfully insulated and the accommodation building has been fitted with a geothermal heating system and solar powered hot water system.

Zoltán Juhász, the settlement's independent MP, said that teaching aids and laboratory equipment had been purchased within the framework of equipment purchasing, while the acquisition of bicycles and aquatic vehicles would improve the accessibility of the lake that forms part of the schools territory, as well as providing visiting schoolchildren with an opportunity to find out more about the lake's wildlife.

The school has been made fully accessible as a result of the project, which also included the construction of pedestrian walkways and a car park for vehicles, the Mayor added.
