The Hungarian agricultural economy has moved onto the path of growth, as a result of which the domestic standard of living has improved, Minister for Rural Development Sándor Fazekas said at the Ministry's Christmas celebration, summarising the results of 2013.

The Minister for Rural Development called the new Land Act, which is designed to keep Hungarian farmland in Hungarian hands, and the Land for Farmers Programme, which aims to reinforce small farms and the agrarian middle class, extremely significant in view of the fact that these measures will help many families thrive and provide them with new work opportunities; in future, only locally resident farmers may purchase farmland and the number of farmers allocated state-owned land will increase by 1000 percent.

Mr. Fazekas also evaluated the development of the new, consensus-base fisheries act, which has put the management and use of domestic waters in order through the application of modern regulations, as a great success. He also mentioned the launching of the new uniform agrarian education scheme and the role of the Government in promoting greater access to Hungarian foods. In summary, he also noted that the Ministry of Rural Development is regarded highly both in public opinion and within the administration.
