“Veszprém is a culturally charismatic city, where events are noteworthy all-year-round. Among those, VeszprémFest is a convex lens, which contributes to the strengthening of the city’s fame with world-renowned artists”, said Minister of Public Administration and Justice Tibor Navracsics, parliamentary representative of the city of Veszprém this Friday at a press conference in Budapest where the agenda of the festival held for the 11th time was presented. Between July 15 and 20 Katie Melua, Vaya Con Dios and Youssou N'Dour will perform at the event.

Starting on 15 July, the opening concert of this year’s VeszprémFest will be performed by a co-production of Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara and Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca and during the next four days stars of global fame such as Katie Melua; Vaya Con Dios, The Brand New Heavies and Grammy Award-winning Youssou N'Dour will give concerts. Sunday, July 20 will be the final evening of the festival and at the same time the Day of Hungarian Jazz which will be commemorated outside of Budapest for the first time this year; the line-up includes both young and old performers from the Hungarian jazz scene with the support of a couple of foreign musicians. This year, the concerts of the festival will take place in the city castle.

Accompanying events are setting the frames of the festival, which was attended by 15 thousand guests last year. Such one event is the Rosé, Riesling and Jazz Days  which will be organized at Óváros Square in Veszprém between July 14 and 22, at which twenty wineries will represent themselves in addition to musical evenings. From 16 July the representatives of the “great generation” will perform on four evenings in the Jesuit Monastery of Veszprém. Márta Sebestyén will perform with Judit Andrejszki and Kálmán Balogh, Tamás Somló with his friends, a concert will be performed by László Dés; and the duo of János Karácsony and Ákos Angler will play as well.

Festival director Zoltán Mészáros and György Felkai, communications director of the MVM Group signed a cooperation agreement at the press conference with which MVM became the main sponsor of the festival. The current budget of VeszrpémFest is excessing HUF 200 million. The city supports the venue with a sum of 20 million, another 40-50 million is expected from the central budget and an additional sum of 75 million from ticket sales.
