The Transport Council adopted a political agreement on three technical legislative acts of the fourth railway package at its session in Luxembourg on 5 June 2014. EU Transport Ministers discussed the Commission’s proposal on facilitating the transport of lorries that are longer and have a heavier weight than the currently used ones. The Hungarian delegation evaluated the transport achievements of the past four years and transferred the duties of the V4 Presidency to Slovakia, the country next to fill this position.

Slager Radio lawsuit rejected by international arbitration court

The investors of Slager Radio submitted an arbitration lawsuit to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID*) in December 2011. According to the owners in 2009 Hungary violated the bilateral investment protection agreements established with the Netherlands, Switzerland and Luxembourg by the implementation of a tender related to national commercial radio broadcasting rights and the relevant decision. The claimant would have claimed damages in the amount of USD 83.3 million (equivalent of approx. HUF 18 billion at the current exchange rate).

Star classification system for roads as well

Public road sections of almost 3000 km in Hungary undergo accident risk surveys and analyses within the framework of the SENSOR (South East Neighbourhood Safe Routes) project financed by the European Union. Based on the findings of the review carried out with a uniform methodology, the Hungarian expert group is to make proposals on low-budget transport technical interventions. The international initiative aimed at significantly raising the standard of traffic safety along the national public road network was presented at a press conference in Budapest on 9 April 2014.
