On occasion of the International Energy Saving Day, seven cities and towns opened their gates to people interested in district heating.

At the Kecskemét venue of the national event organised by the Professional Association of Hungarian District Heating Suppliers, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of National Development for Green economy, Climate Policy and Key Public Services Ferenc Hizó acknowledged the role of district heating companies in energy saving, climate protection and the improvement of the quality of life. The energy efficiency investment implemented in the district heating supply in Kecskemét was an excellent example of how customers’ demands could be met at the highest possible standard by considering cost efficiency and energy awareness, Ferenc Hizó said. The Deputy State Secretary believed that further large-scale energy efficiency investments were required in order to make district heating supply in Hungary competitive. The energy efficiency modernisation of the district heating sector and its supply with low-cost energy resources produced in Hungary could bring about competitiveness to an extent that could involve significant market growth for the district heating sector as a result of projects to be implemented by 2020.
