The Government wishes to achieve within four years that, in addition to households, electricity in Hungary should be the cheapest in Europe for the industry, too, Minister of National Development Zsuzsa Németh said at the award ceremony ‘Enterprises for Energy Awareness’ of MVM Partner Ltd. in Budapest on 14 May, 2014.

“Low energy prices must be made available so that Hungary could keep and strengthen its competitiveness in the global economy. The Government is to start creating conditions for overheads reductions in the industry: there are plans to set up a non-profit public utility company after the Public Services Act has been passed. An effort closely related to the production of cheap electricity is the enlargement of Paks Nuclear Power Plant”, the Minister pointed out.

The aim of the tender was to award Hungarian enterprises that consistently focus on the principles of energy efficiency and energy awareness in their everyday operation. The main objectives are to disseminate energy efficiency investments, services and efforts and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience. Energy awareness is an attitude that is valuable and supportable not only at the level of individuals. Supporting its dissemination is a high priority task for sustainability and environmental considerations and in view of the Hungarian economy as a whole.

The over two hundred applications submitted were assessed and awarded in three categories: micro, small and medium enterprises. First place awardees were given a hybrid car each for one year use, while other winners were awarded electric motorcycles and scooters.
