We can be proud of the quality of the residential park in the neighbourhood of Ócsa that was built for those who found themselves in difficulties as a result of foreign currency loans – said Miklós Soltész, State Secretary of the Ministry of Human Resources, at the press conference held by the construction site.

It was announced that the applications for tenancy may be submitted from midnight on 15 January 2013. The criteria for application can be found on the websites of both the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Human Resources.

State Secretary Soltész pointed out that the applications will be handled by the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service. The future tenants of the first 80 houses will be decided upon by a five-member committee following a preliminary background study. In the committee, 2 members will be delegated by the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service and the 2 members by the local government of Ócsa. The fifth member will be delegated by the National Asset Management Company. The monthly rent of the 50 square metre, 60 square metre and the largest, 70 square metre houses will be HUF 16 800, HUF 19 500, and HUF 21 100, respectively.

President of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service father Imre Kozma stated that the question is whether is more difficult to build houses or to create a community out of a group of people. According to father Kozma, the Charity Service agreed to perform the latter. He added that although applications may only be handed in from midnight, by Tuesday 25 families had indicated their wish to be included and there are applicants who had started looking for jobs in the neighbourhood.

The Ministry of Interior’s State Secretary, Péter Szaló, mentioned that following plenty of administrative tasks and meetings of the participating organizations, the main water supply has been completed and the residential area is now connected to the waste water system. Due to the cold weather, the first 80 buildings will probably be ready for occupancy in the middle of April.

The National Asset Management Company regards the social housing estate in Ócsa as a model project. CEO Tamás Csillag and Mayor of Ócsa Károly Bukodi explained that a new healthcare centre had been recently built out of HUF 300 million and the new crèche will be ready by spring. The kindergarten, and the primary and secondary schools will also be ready to take in new students.
