Hungary will host a poetry and prose recital festival this spring to commemorate the European Year of the Family and the 100 years since the outbreak of World War I, Minister of State for Culture János Halász said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Mr Halász said the festival will be a good opportunity to promote literature, which is one of the aims of the country’s cultural policy. The festival will have two categories, one for professionals and one for amateurs and students. The finals for the professional category will be held on 11 April – the Day of Poetry in Hungary – at the National Theatre in Budapest.

The finals for amateurs and students will be on 5 April in the Játékszín Theatre in Budapest. 53 professional poetry reciters are already entered in the competition and in the amateur and student category 35 schools and civil organisations are expected to participate.
