Some 30 children with special needs received special theoretical and practical training in Somogyvár, South Transdanubia, during the reconstruction of the local Széchenyi Mansion thanks to a programme run by the Rostás Cathedral Foundation. Deputy State Secretary for Minority and Civil Social Relations Csaba Latorcai attended a meeting to summarise the results and discuss further tasks related to the programme.

The Foundation was awarded 14 million forints from the National Cooperation Fund for its project, which gave the children of the Somogy County Special Education Needs School a chance to give their pupils both theoretical and practical education by taking part in a restoration project that requires specialised skills.

Mr. Latorcai said the initiative was unique because on the one hand it gave participating children valuable theoretical and practical knowledge, while at the same time offering them the opportunity to do so in a historical building that is also serves as their home for the duration of their studies. The former Széchenyi Mansion has operated as a special education needs boarding school since 1946.
