Parliamentary State Secretary at the Ministry of Human Resources András Doncsev inaugurated a science laboratory at the Mihály Táncsics high school in the central Hungarian town of Dabas on Monday.

Mr. Doncsev said at the inauguration that modern technology and high-performance computers can be useful tools in conveying knowledge, but added that only the contribution of teachers – people with hearts, humanity and concepts of good and bad – can achieve a quality that goes beyond the ability to use modern technology and elevate students above being simple operators of existing technologies.

Doncsev said that a truly educated person must stand firmly on the ground, being not just someone equipped with the know-how of modern technology, but also someone who can apply this knowledge based on a timeless set of values. He said the new generation must be able to continually sort right from wrong, have the ability to separate true values from useless junk in the vast seas of digital information.

The laboratory project was realised within the framework  of the New Széchenyi economic development plan, receiving 285 million forints in EU funding for two twin labs accommodating 16 students each, an adjacent reception area and chemicals storage room. The school intends to also turn the lab into a science centre for the region.
