The MoD EFB’s primary task is to exercise centralized economic control in the fields of finance and accounting at management level as well as at military unit level as an independent budgetary organization with a complete sphere of authority.

Its prioritised main responsibilities are the followings:

  • planning the defence portfolio’s gross annual budget as well as its basic budget,
  • operating the central payroll system exercising jurisdiction, executing calculation of salary, labour, tax, social and health insurance,
  • disbursing social and family related allowances,
  • representing the portfolio’s budget-related interests and the budgetary proposals within the committees of the Hungarian Parliament and the Ministry for National Economy;
  • Performing economic tasks arising from the portfolio’s international relations (NATO and Peace Support Operations),
  • preparing, establishing and operating portfolio-level regulation of Operational Internal Control and its regular review,
  • operating and maintaining the MoD Budget and Economic Information System,
  • working out the regulations for countersigning activities, counter signing and registering financial obligations before fulfilment.
